Holders Cliftonville began the defence of the County Antrim Shield by beating Newington YC 1-0 at Solitude with Kieran O'Connor scoring on 90 minutes. The visitors had been reduced to ten men when Sean Burns was sent-off on 25.
Linfield saw off H&W Welders 4-0, Dean Fitzgerald scored two as Glentoran beat Comber Rec 2-0 and Conor McGourty both as Donegal Celtic beat Glebe Rangers.
Ballymena beat Orangefield 8-0, Davitt Walsh scoring three on his debut and David Rainey two as Crusaders won 2-0.
Brantwood were on the recieving end of Rainey's double salvo at Seaview.
Linfield's scorers were Damien Curran with a penalty, Glenn Ferguson, Kris Lindsay and Peter Thompson.
Randal Reid, Stuart King, Mark Picking, Lee Patrick and Darren Fitzgerald were the other men on target for Ballymena.
Larne saw off Ards 3-0 thanks to goals from Marty Hunter, Marty Verner and Aaron Black and Darren Armour, Dean Youle, Aaron Johnston and Nathan McConnell scored in Distillery's 4-0 win over East Belfast.
