David McAlinden was on target in Cliftonville's 2-1 win |
Cliftonville moved up to second place in the Carnegie Premier League thanks to a hard-earned victory in the north Belfast derby at Seaview. Eddie Patterson's Reds were two up by the 25th minute with David McAlinden netting a fine free-kick and Vincent Sweeney shooting in the second goal.
Crusaders got back into it when Chris Morrow lobbed keeper John Connolly from 22 yards in the 38th minute.
Connolly made a late save from Ciaran Gargan to keep Cliftonville in front.
Cliftonville, now assured of a top-three finish, can make sure of second place on Saturday by beating Glentoran who slipped to third after losing to Linfield.
