Gerry Flynn succeeds Roy Coyle as manager of Newry City |
Gerry Flynn has been installed as the new manager of Newry City - but too late to secure the transfer of striker Chris Morgan from Glentoran. However, Flynn intends trying to secure his former work colleague Morgan once the currently season is over.
"I wish my appointment had been sorted earlier as I could have had Chris at Newry," said Flynn.
"The supporters, board and facilities are super at Newry. They deserve a wee bit more than they have got."
Flynn's appointment was delayed because of a hitch in his move from Donegal Celtic where he was a player.
Celtic had asked Newry to delay announcing their new manager until after last Friday's league match between the two clubs, only for the news to break on the morning of the game.
Flynn said he was under no illusions on taking up his first managerial role.
"I am green and have a lot to learn, but I am ready to give it 100%," he added.
"There are great people down there and the club is crying out for success.
"I want to get one of two top-name players. The rest will follow.
"If I can turn things around, great. If not, the club know I will not hold them to ransom money-wise."
Flynn's first match in charge is away to one of his former clubs Coleraine in the league on Saturday.
