Linfield's Paul McAreavey saw his free-kick saved |
Cliftonville and Linfield fought out a goal-less draw at Solitude to lose ground on leaders Glentoran in the Carnegie Premier League title race. The closest to a breakthrough in the first half came on 28 minutes when Paul McAreavey's free-kick was palmed away by John Connolly.
The Reds keeper was called into action again to save from Peter Thompson in the second period.
Cliftonville debutant Vincent Sweeney was thwarted by an Aidan O'Kane block.
"I think a draw was a fair result," said Linfield manager David Jeffrey.
"We probably had the best three chances and their goalkeeper John Connolly made some fantastic saves.
"But O'Kane had to clear off the line for us."
