Longford Town 0-2 Derry City
Mark Farren
Mark Farren bagged a brace for Derry at Flancare Park
Derry have moved up to second place in the Eircom Premier Division thanks to a Mark Farren double at Flancare Park on Saturday night.

The City forward netted after just 15 seconds from a Gary Beckett throughball and slotted home again on 29 minutes after good work from Ciaran Martyn.

Longford came close to pulling a goal back on the hour when Alan Kirby hit the bar.

Derry's Darren Kelly headed against the woodwork 10 minutes from time.

Martyn, Barry Molloy and Gareth McGlynn all went close for the visitors in a first half dominated by the visitors.

Stephen Kenny's side have edged ahead of Cork City and are now seven points behind Shelbourne, who have played two games more than Derry.

In Saturday's other games Drogheda United beat UCD 1-0 while Sligo Rovers and Waterford United played out a scoreless draw.
