Peter Thompson is challenged by Limavady defender Neil Harkin |
Champions Linfield secured their first points of the new Carnegie Premier League campaign with a convincing victory at Limavady Showgrounds. International striker Peter Thompson raced through to score the opener on 12 minutes as United looked for offside.
Midfielder Paul McAreavey saw his shot deflected off Eamonn Doherty for the second five minutes later.
Thompson netted again on 32 minutes before Thomas Stewart scored on his Blues debut early in the second half.
NI Under-21 international Stewart, released by Wolves earlier this year, sent a low strike past keeper Michael Doherty after a pass by Jim Ervin.
Linfield were in control and there was never any doubt they would recover from their 3-0 defeat at home to Cliftonville on the opening day of the championship.
