Jim Hagan's Larne enjoyed a fine win at Mourneview Park |
Larne secured their first points in the CIS Insurance Cup with goals from Lewis Hamlin and Liam Mullan at Mourneview. The first goal came on 14 minutes when Hamlin's free-kick from 25 yards beat Glenavon goalkeeper Paul Rice.
Mullan struck on 31 minutes to make it 2-0 after keeepr Rice had misjudged Andrew Cleary's cross from the right.
Glenavon had chances but new signing Nathan McConnell and Ciaran Quinn failed to convert leaving the Lurgan club with no points in Group A.
"We gave away a couple of soft goals but really I felt we played well," said Glenavon manager Colin Malone.
"We dominated for certain periods and ended up chasing the game at the end.
"There were enough chances to score and I am disappointed we did not finish them.
"But the display has given me heart."
