Peter Thompson put Linfield ahead in the second leg |
Linfield are out of the Champions League after Wednesday night's 2-2 draw gave Gorica a 5-3 win on aggregate in the first qualifying round tie. The Slovenians hit the woodwork twice before Peter Thompson put the Blues ahead with a 28th minute tap-in.
Miran Burgic headed Gorica level two minutes later and Linfield striker Mark Dickson missed a penalty before another Burgic header made it 2-1.
Substitute Paul McAreavey equalised from close range in the final minute.
Simon Zivec and Burgic were the Gorica players denied by the woodwork early in the game.
New Linfield signing Mark Dickson created the opener, chipping keeper Mitja Pirih and leaving strike partner Thompson with the simple task of to slotting into an open goal.
But the Windsor Park men were quickly pegged back when Burgic netted from a Zivec free-kick.
David Jeffrey's team had a penalty appeal turned down before Alan Mannus made an excellent save in a one-on-one with Jam Sturm.
Pirih saved Dickson's spot-kick on 52 minutes after an Aidan O'Kane shot was handled in the area.
Burgin secured his brace seven minutes from time when his header went in off the post.
The woodwork was soon to be tested again as Blues substitute Stephen Garrett hit the crossbar.
McAreavey ensured the second leg ended all-square when he bundled the ball over the line after good work from Thomspon.
