McKinstry secures Armagh City job
Gary McKinstry has taken over as manager of Armagh City

Armagh City have appointed caretaker boss Gary McKinstry as manager on a permanent basis.

Former Port Vale striker McKinstry takes over from Colin Malone who quit to return to Glenavon.

"I am thrilled to get the chance and will give it my best shot. Colin Malone did a fantastic job," said McKinstry.

"I have been talking to the players and 95% of them have come on board. My aim now is to see which new faces I can bring in to strengthen the squad."

McKinstry had three spells as a player at Holm Park, scoring 110 goals in 177 appearances.

At 34, he will be the youngest manager in the Carnegie Premier League.

"We were impressed with Gary's work as reserve team manager last season and he is an Armagh City man at heart," said club secretary John Hynds.

"We held a number of interviews and the standard was high. Gary came out on top and he is delighted to get the chance."
