Jimmy Brown took over as boss last August |
Glenavon have sacked manager Jimmy Brown despite rubbishing rumours of his imminent departure and giving him a vote of confidence a few weeks ago. Brown, who had another year of his contract to run, was shocked when he received the news while awaiting a train at Central Station.
"It came as a huge shock," he said. "To be honest I'm still trying to come to terms with the club's decision.
"I really can't say too much more. I need time to collect my thoughts."
A statement from the Mourneview club said:
"At a meeting of the Directors of Glenavon FC, a decision was taken to terminate the contract of the Manager, Jim Brown, with immediate effect.
"The Directors will meet with Mr Brown in the near future to agree a mutually acceptable compensation package."
Brown took over from Tommy Kincaid last August, and although they avoided the relegation mire, they won only seven Irish Premiership games throughout the season.
What annoyed Brown was that he had recently persuaded a number of key players to remain at Mourneview for next season.
