Daniel Lyons shot Donegal Celtic into an early lead |
Donegal Celtic look to have one foot in the Premier Division after this first leg win over Institute in the Irish League play-off. The Hoops had an ideal start as Daniel Lyons scored after just 90 seconds.
Institute had a great chance to level but Ruairi Boyle's 25th-minute penalty was saved by DC keeper Declan Brown.
Paul McVeigh made it 2-0 with a great strike early in the second half and, although Gareth Sproule pulled one back, Kevin Duff fired in a third.
Boyle's penalty was awarded by referee David Malcolm after Ryan McIlmoyle had been brougth down by Sean Fox.
Brown's save meant the First Division runners-up were one up at the interval.
It was 2-0 thanks to McVeigh early in the second half but Sproule gave Institute fresh hope by punishing some slack play in the Celtic defence.
Duff's powerful finish near the end puts Celtic in with a great chance of securing Premier status for the first time.
