Conor Hagan shot Lisburn Distillery into the lead |
Conor Hagan and Darren Armour were on target as Lisburn Distillery beat Ballymena United 2-1 in Wednesday's Irish Cup sixth round replay. Hagan robbed United full-back Craig McClean and went on to shoot in off the far post after nine minutes.
Armour added the second on the hour mark, turning in Gareth McKeown's drilled shot into the area.
A Paul Brown header on 82 minutes gave United hope but Distillery went through to a quarter-final against Bangor.
So a huge disappointment for Tommy Wright's Ballymena side eight days after they lost to Linfield in the County Antrim Shield final.
Seeking a first major trophy since 1989, the Sky Blues had been favourites with home advantage for the rematch.
They had chances in the first half to get back on terms.
Phil Charnock had a 20-yard shot palmed away by Whites keeper Phil Matthews.
Then they had a penalty appeal waved away when Kevin Kelbie fell under a challenge from Wayne Buchanan.
Matthews again excelled by producing a fine save to deny Kevin Kelbie late in the game.
