Michael Ward scored Dungannon's third goal against Limavady |
A late fightback from Limavady could not deny the Swifts all three points in the Carnegie Premier League game at Stangmore Park on Saturday. Timmy Adamson's hooked finish and a Darren Murphy header gave Dungannon a 2-0 lead at half-time.
The match looked to be over six minutes after the break when Michael Ward fired low past United keeper Dwayne Nelson.
Austin Friel side-footed into the net to make it 3-1 and then blasted home on 83 minutes to set up a tense finale.
Shane McCabe supplied the pass for Adamson's opener on 29 minutes while Ward was the provider from Murphy's goal two minutes from the break.
Stephen Parkhouse wasted a series of chances for Limavady but it was his flick-on which set-up Friel for his first goal on 75 minutes.
Dungannon remain in fourth but have closed the gap on second-placed Portadown to three points.
Paul Kee's United side have slipped one place to eighth after the defeat.
