Gary Smyth played a captain's role as Ballymena continued their recent good form with this win at the Showgrounds. Smyth bent a free-kick round the wall and past goalkeeper Marc Robinson on 28 minutes but Alain Emerson replied from close range just before the interval.
The United skipper fired home a left foot piledriver after 59 and Kevin Kelbie scored at the second attempt on 78 after Robinson saved his first try.
Scott McCordick took advantage of a William McFrederick mistake on 90.
McFrederick dropped the ball, allowing McCordick to score from a yard out.
Robinson was called into action in the early stages when he brilliantly saved Kelbie's left foot shot.
Sweeney and King should have hit the target for the Sky Blues in the opening period.
