Larne took a crucial victory in this bottom of the table clash on Monday. Mark Dickson and Gary McCutcheon went close early on and McCutcheon broke the deadlock when he tapped home after a defensive mix-up on 31 minutes.
Frankie Wilson added the second with an unstoppable left foot shot from long range four minutes later before Avon Jephcott pulled one back on 36 minutes.
Jason Hill and Bertie Fulton had chances and on 64, Mark Dickson netted a penalty after McCutcheon was fouled.
Dickson's early free-kick was well saved by Ian Lester, while McCutcheon was unlucky with a turn and shot.
Jephcott started the game seven minutes late after his flight from England was delayed, but showed his worth by turning to shoot past Chris Keenan for Ards' only goal of the game.
Brian Adair committed the foul for the penalty midway through the second half.
