Ferguson delight at CIS triumph
CIS CUP FINAL
Glenn Ferguson
Linfield hero Glenn Ferguson said his hat-trick in Saturday's 3-0 win over Glentoran in the CIS Cup final was among the best in his long career.

"To score a hat-trick against your Big Two rivals in a cup final ranks right up there," he told BBC Sport.

"Most important for us was to win the cup and we did that comprehensively.

"We just work on each game as it comes - we won this one and now we have to focus on getting three points against Loughgall on Tuesday night."

The striker added: "We are working really hard in training and it is paying dividends. It is all about keeping the ball, passing, moving and trying to score plenty of goals.

Linfield manager David Jeffrey described the victory as "phenomenal" and heaped praised on his players after winning the first trophy of the Irish League season.

"I knew it was going to be a difficult game but the players performed phenomenally well," said the Blues boss.

"They were disciplined, won their battles, played good football and defended when they had to.

Yes, we have raised the bar from last season but we have to work hard to keep up there

"And of course there were three cracking goals from the master craftsman himself.

"I am particularly proud of my own club and supporters."

Linfield have been the outstanding team of the season so far, topping the Carnegie Premier League and now winning the CIS Cup.

And Jeffrey has warned the rest that there is still more to come from his free-scoring team.

"Yes, we have raised the bar from last season but we have to work hard to keep up there," he added.

"There is more to come - we can't stop now. We will enjoy this but no-one is getting carried away."
