Newry forward Damien Whitehead hit a treble at the Showgrounds |
Newry striker Damien Whitehead claimed a hat-trick as City hammered Institute in Saturday's Carnegie Premier League encounter at the Showgrounds. Whitehead curled in the opener on seven minutes before Andy Crawford doubled the lead in the 29th minute after rounding keeper Gary Ramsey.
Whitehead fired home on 30 minutes to make it 3-0.
Colm McCullagh set up Whitehead for his third (45) and Damien Curran's (85) free-kick completed the rout.
Institute striker Kevin Ramsey was stretchered off with a leg injury on 20 minutes in what was a nightmare match for the visitors.
Managerless Newry have joined Institute on eight points but City are a place ahead on goal difference.
