 | IRISH CUP SEMI-FINALS |
Holders Glentoran and Portadown will replay on Tuesday night to decide who meets underdogs Larne in the 7 May Nationwide Irish Cup final. The clubs second and third in the Irish League fought out a 0-0 draw at Windsor Park on Saturday in a match which failed to live up to its billing.
With the Ports winning 4-3 when the teams last met, goals were expected.
But the match ended in stalemate and the replay is on Tuesday at the same venue, kick-off 1945BST.
It was a fair outcome as neither side could claim to have had the better of things.
But there was an early break for the Glens when their keeper Elliott Morris was dispossessed by Gary Hamilton. Referee Mark Courtney harshly ruled there had been a foul and it looked like a let-off for the holders.
Roy Coyle caused a few raised eyebrows by not including two-time cup final matchwinner Michael Halliday up front.
Danger man
His replacement, Stephen Parkhouse, had a chance to grab the glory but sidefooted weakly wide from a good position.
Just before half-time Vinny Arkins failed to get a good conection on a Richard Clarke cross.
In the second half danger man Arkins tested Morris from long-range but the Glens keeper turned the ball away for a corner
Glentoran, attempting to reach the Irish Cup final for the third successive year, brought Halliday on Parkhouse with 15 minutes left.
Halliday soon had a chance but sent his left-foot shot well over.
Near the end the Glens got a free right on the edge of the area after a Michael Collins hand-ball. Leeman had a blast but his effort was blocked in front of goal.
