Coleraine 6-1 Newry City

Sean Armstrong scored a hat-trick against Newry City
Coleraine recorded their biggest win of the season when they crushed Newry City 6-1 at the Showgrounds on Tuesday.

Barry Curran notched the opener on 14 minutes with Jody Tolan making it two from the penalty spot after a hand-ball by Alan McDermott.

Sean Armstrong and Jody Tolan scored further goals before half-time.

In the second half Armstrong scored two more to complete his hat-trick and sub Michael McHugh netted Newry's consolation goal.

Having lost their last game 4-0 at home to Dungannon Swifts, this was another nightmare for Newry.

They went behind when Curran scored from close-range after keeper Andrew Coleman had dropped Armstrong's flick-on from a Gerry Flynn throw-in.

Ten minutes later Tolan stroked in the penalty and on 42 the Coleraine striker provided the cross from which Armstrong headed number three.

Tolan side-footed in his second goal in first half stoppage-time from Curran's cross.

Armstrong headed Coleraine 5-0 up on 56 minutes and then lobbed Coleman for the sixth in the 72nd minute.

McHugh scored from a tight angle 12 minutes from the end.

Armstrong's last hat-trick was in the 2003 Boxing Day derby game against Ballymena United.

Coleraine have scored 18 goals in their last four matches.
