Darren Lockhart headed Glentoran's equaliser at Drumahoe |
Glentoran made it three wins out of three in the CIS Insurance Cup by coming from behind to beat Institute 2-1 at Drumahoe. But injuries to Chris Walker and Jody Tolan overshadowed the Glens win.
Darren Lockhart and Michael Halliday scored the goals which see the Glens five points clear in Group One.
Ruairi Boyle had fired Institute into a fifth minute lead from a free-kick while Institute's French keeper Jous Sullivan saved a Colin Nixon penalty.
Right-back Boyle's opener was a well-struck free which beat the Glens defensive wall and keeper Elliott Morris.
Glentoran looked likely to equalise straight away when a spot-kick was awarded for a push on Halliday but French goalkeeper Jous saved from Nixon.
However, Jous was beaten by Lockhart's looping header on 17 minutes following Sean Ward's long throw.
Halliday then snapped up the Glens winner five minutes before half-time.
Glentoran striker Jody Tolan was stretchered off in the first half and taken to hospital to have a knee injury examined.
Worse was to follow when Walker went over on his ankle and collapsed in agony.
"You are talking months in both cases. It is a bitter blow," said Glentoran manager Roy Coyle.
"They were innocuous incidents, nothing to do with Institute players.
"Jody twisted while Chris went over on his ankle. Glentoran will look after them and all we can do is wish them a speedy recovery."
