McCann knee woe rocks Ballymena
Tim McCann
Tim McCann moved to Ballymena United last summer
Ballymena United winger Tim McCann will miss the rest of this season.

The 32-year-old winger has damaged cruciate ligaments in his knee and requires surgery.

McCann was injured in last weekend's Irish Premier League game against Omagh Town at the Showgrounds when he twisted his knee.

Boss Kenny Shiels said:"Tim is devastated. He received confirmation of the injury from a specialist and is feeling pretty down."

"He is a quality player and has done extremely well for us this season. Hopefully he will be able to return after the summer.

"I am sorry for Tim. He is such an experienced player and had settled in well at the club. I feel for him right now."

McCann joined United from Glentoran in July when his contract at the Oval wasn't renewed after six years with the club.

He elected to join the Braidmen despite interest from his former club Cliftonville and Coleraine.

The Belfast man has found the net just once for United, a glorious volley to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Crusaders in October."

McCann is likely to have surgery next month.

Shiels' United squad has been hit with injuries lately.

Midfielder Jamie Marks is struggling with a hamstring strain and Nigel Boyd is suffering chest pain which may be because of injured ribs.
