Chris Morgan punished some poor Loughgall defending |
Two Chris Morgan goals helped Glentoran stay top of the Daily Mirror Irish League as they defeated Loughgall at Lakeview Park. All the goals came in an exciting second half with Morgan putting the Glens ahead in the 52nd minute.
Keith Percy levelled in the 67th minute and Alan Emerson then missed a glorious chance to put Loughgall ahead.
Damien McLaughlin headed Glentoran ahead in the 79th minute and Morgan scored again five minutes from time.
In the first half, Glentoran goalkeeper Elliott Morris made a great save to deny a Keith Percy header.
At the other end, Darren Lockhart had a header cleared off the line by Darragh Peden.
Before the break, Loughgall thought they had taken the lead when Emerson put the ball in the net but the referee adjudged that the ball had been out of play earlier in the move.
Morgan's 52nd minute opener came after he latched onto a clearance from his own goalkeeper with the Loughgall defence caught napping.
Kevin Keegan then should have added to Glentoran's lead but his poor first touch enabled Loughgall to avert the danger.
Percy equalised for Loughgall in the 67th minute and Emerson should have put the home side ahead two minutes later but he blasted over the bar from 16 yards.
Lockhart had two chances to restore Glentoran's lead.
Not for the first time, Loughgall goalkeeper Marc Robinson denied the Glens by saving Lockhart's first effort.
Lockhart then hopelessly miskicked with his second chance when a goal seemed certain.
However, Glentoran did go back in front when substitute McLaughlin headed Sean Holmes' corner past Robinson in the 79th minute.
Five minutes from time, a weak backheader from Paul Harbinson gifted Morgan his second goal.
