Kevin Doyle's first half goal was enough to give Cork City a deserved 1-0 win over Derry City in Tuesday's Eircom League game at the Brandywell. Derry's Ruairi Higgins and Cork's George O'Callaghan both had long-range efforts saved in the first half.
Damien Brennan hit the Cork woodwork with a 40-yard effort on 35 minutes.
Doyle's winner came a minute later with the youngster finishing off a swift move after Derry's Killian Brennan had lost possession in midfield.
The goalscorer also hit the Derry crossbar in the 57th minute as Cork maintained a grip on the game.
Derry failed to create a chance of note in the second period.
