Kincaid quits Larne job

Tommy Kincaid's team reached the CIS Cup final where they lost on penalties to Cliftonville

Larne have been rocked by the resignation of manager Tommy Kincaid.

Assistant-boss David McCallan will take the managerial reins for Tuesday's league game at Institute however he does not want to take the job on a permanent basis.

Kincaid told the BBC that he had taken the decision "for personal reasons which will remain personal although recent results were a factor".

He insisted that he had "no other job lined up" although he is keen to remain on in football.

There are no current vacancies in Irish League management although Glenavon boss Alfie Wylie has been under a degree of pressure in recent weeks.

After a promising start to the season which included the club reaching the CIS Cup final, Larne have struggled in recent weeks.

They have lost their last four games - including three straight league defeats - and have earned only one win in eight matches.

Despite Larne's poor run, Kincaid's resignation is a major shock.

His team lost the CIS Cup final against Cliftonville on penalties and the club currently lie 10th in the 16-team Irish League Premier Division - seven points ahead of bottom-placed Glenavon.

Kincaid said he had taken the decision to stand down now to give a new manager time to avail of the transfer window in January.

"I've left the club in a better position than it was when I took the job three seasons ago," added Kincaid.

In addition to the Institute v Larne clash at Drumahoe, there are three other re-arranged Daily Mirror Irish League Premier Division games on Tuesday evening.

Leaders Portadown will hope to get on back on track after their weekend defeat by Ballymena when they take on Cliftonville at Shamrock Park.

Crusaders take on Linfield at Seaview while Omagh Town host resurgent Ballymena United.
