Ronnie McFall's team's hopes look to be over |
Portadown suffered a heavy Uefa Cup defeat when they were hammered 4-0 in Malmo in Thursday's qualifying round first leg.Hans Mattisson put the home side ahead and Andreas Yngvesson twice plus a late Niklas Skoog goal sees Portadown facing mission impossible in the second leg.
Malmo passed the ball around well and played confident attacking football right from the opening whistle.
The Swedish side forced a total of 11 corners, compared with just one for the visitors.
Malmo took the lead in the 23rd minute when Hans Mattisson's corner from the left flew straight into the top corner of the net.
Yngvesson terrorised the Portadown defence on numerous occasions with his pace and skill.
He found himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper after 29 minutes and waited for the custodian to commit himself before slipping the ball over him for the second goal.
Yngvesson scored his second with a fierce low strike and Niklas Skoog shot from just inside the penalty area to wrap up the victory.
Portadown's Pat McGibbon had a good game in defence and the score could have been higher but for his efforts.
Dean Fitzgerald also showed some good touches in the middle of the park, but Portadown never looked like troubling the Malmo defence.
