Scotland celebrate Kenny Miller's opening goal |
Scotland coach Berti Vogts declared himself satisfied with the performance and passion displayed by his players in the win over Iceland. But Vogts admitted there were concerns about the fitness of both Barry Ferguson and Rab Douglas for Wednesday's game in Lithuania.
And he said he would settle for a point from that game as he continued to target second place in Euro 2004 qualifying Group Five.
"I'm very happy with the three points. We played very well in the first half," said Vogts.
"There was great fight and emotion and I'm very pleased with my players.
"The preparation starts now for the Lithuania game and we'll wait and see how they get on against Germany. "I'd be happy to come back with a point, but it's an opportunity for us and maybe we'll come back with three.
"Barry and Rab have only had limited training this week and we will have to have a look at them on Sunday to see how they are."
Scotland goalscorers Kenny Miller and Lee Wilkie were delighted with their first international goals.
"To put us ahead so early on was a dream start," said Miller.
Lee Wilkie is mobbed after scoring the winner |
"It was a hard-working performance throughout the team and it was great to get the three points in the bag. "That was a big step towards the play-off spot, which is the main aim at the moment, and anything else would be a bonus."
"Things can't get much better for me at the moment," admitted Wilkie, who was struggling to get a game for Dundee 18 months ago.
"To get the second goal calmed a few nerves, because we had controlled the first half.
"Now we just hope we can get another three points in Lithuania."
Iceland coach Atli Edvaldsson said he felt his side were unfortunate not to take something from the game after an improved second half, and he was seething at the referee's decision not to give a penalty against Lee Wilkie.
"We were very poor in the first half, but we started the second half very well," he said.
"Scotland did not have many real goalscoring chances - I think we had better opportunities and, of course, there was the penalty we should have had.
"If you push someone in the penalty box, you have to give a penalty, but an indirect free kick is a bad decision."
