German slip gives Scots heart
German coach Rudi Voeller watched his team struggle
Scotland's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2004 were given a major boost after Group Five favourites Germany were held to a surprise 1-1 draw at home to Lithuania on Saturday night.

Scotland, who beat Iceland earlier in the day, now top the section on goal difference from the World Cup runners-up, with both sides on seven points after three games.

Germany took an early lead courtesy of a goal from defender Carsten Ramelow and wasted several chances to increase their advantage before Lithuania midfielder Tomas Razanauskas hit the equaliser with 17 minutes to play.

"We gave away two important points and it hurts but everything is still to play for," said German coach Rudi Voeller after the game in Nuremberg.

Scotland travel to meet Lithuania, who are ranked 106th in the world, on Wednesday.

Germany's next game in the group is against Scotland at Hampden Park on 7 June.
