Portugal go for new blood
Real Madrid star Luis Figo
Scotland will be up against stars like Luis Figo
Portugal have called up five new faces to the squad that faces Scotland in next week's friendly international in Braga.

Caretaker coach Agostinho Oliveira has continued his policy of renewal with the inclusion of Benfica pair Ricardo Rocha and Tiago Mendes, Guimaraes duo Ricardo Silva and Pedro Mendes and Varzim defender Jorge Ribeiro.

They were included alongside established stars Luis Figo, Rui Costa, Pedro Pauleta and Sergio Conceicao.

There is no place for attacking midfielder Joao Pinto who last month returned from a four-month ban for punching a referee at the World Cup.

Oliveira said Pinto needed time to get back to full form.

The coach has exempted players from top clubs FC Porto and Boavista because they have matches 48 hours before the 20 November game.

The Scotland encounter is likely to be Oliveira's last match in charge of Portugal, who automatically qualify for Euro 2004 as the host country.

The Portuguese Soccer Federation is currently looking for a foreigner to take over as full-time coach with Brazil's World Cup winning coach Luis Felipe Scolari among the favourites to take the helm.

Scotland last travelled to Portugal in 1993 for a World Cup qualifying match and were hammered 5-0.

Portugal squad: Joaquim Silva (Braga), Nelson Pereira (Sporting Lisbon), Fernando Couto (Lazio), Rui Jorge (Sporting), Fernando Meira (Stuttgart), Hugo Viana (Newcastle), Rui Costa (AC Milan), Sergio Conceicao (Inter Milan), Luis Boa Morte (Fulham), Luis Figo (Real Madrid), Simao Sabrosa (Benfica), Nuno Gomes (Benfica), Cesar Pauleta (Bordeaux), Joao Fernandes (Belenenses), Ricardo Rocha (Benfica), Tiago Mendes (Benfica), Jorge Ribeiro (Varzim), Marco Ferreira (Setubal), Pedro Mendes (Guimaraes), Ricardo Silva (Guimaraes).
