England's John Terry will miss the World Cup qualifiers with Wales and Northern Ireland due to a knee injury. Terry picked up the injury playing for Chelsea on Saturday and has been ruled out for four weeks.
Fulham's Zat Knight has been called up but Terry's starting place is likely to go to Liverpool's Jamie Carragher or Matthew Upson of Birmingham.
Skipper David Beckham and midfielder Steven Gerrard also missed Tuesday's training session.
Beckham has a sore foot which is not considered serious and he is expected to join in training at Arsenal's London Colney headquarters on Wednesday.
Gerrard was not able to take part in the main session because of his thigh injury, although he was receiving treatment from England physiotherapist Gary Lewin.
Gerrard is a doubt after missing the Super Cup last Friday with a calf injury.
Either Owen Hargreaves or Michael Carrick could be picked in the central midfield holding role should Gerrard fail to recover.
England face Wales at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday and then face an away tie in Belfast four days later.

Striker Michael Owen, who is suspended for the Wales game but available to face Northern Ireland, will not meet up with the squad on Wednesday as he is due to finalise his switch from Real Madrid to Newcastle.
Meanwhile, with Manchester United's Gary Neville out through injury, the England coach will also be forced to decide whether to use Phil Neville or possibly Carragher to fill in as right-back.
Everton boss David Moyes believes his players could help England out of a tight spot.
"I know the games are important now, it is not as if there are friendlies for a player to bed in, but I don't think Tony Hibbert would have been out of place if he had been given an opportunity," said Moyes.
"Maybe stepping up to that level will help him as well."
Moyes added: "However, I think Phil Neville can fill that role at right-back for England."
England face Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday and Northern Ireland at Windsor Park in Belfast the following Wednesday.
