Steve Finnan is out of the Republic of Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Italy because of a hamstring injury.
The Espanyol full-back has been bothered by a hamstring injury for some time and he has suffered a recurrence of the problem.
Finnan has missed the Republic's last two qualifiers because of the injury.
The Republic face Bulgaria at Croke Park on 28 March before taking on Italy in Bari four days later.
The full-back's withdrawal leaves Giovanni Trapattoni with a 25-man squad.
Trapattoni's side are level with Italy at the top of the Group Eight standings with 10 points each.
