Ramsey is Wales 'future' - Giggs

Ramsey has enjoyed a breakthrough year for both club and country

Ryan Giggs has urged Wales manager John Toshack to make Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey the focus of his team.

This season Ramsey, still just 17, has made his senior Wales debut and his Champions League bow, scoring a first European goal in the process.

Former Wales captain Giggs is sure that Ramsey can be the heartbeat of the Wales team for many years to come.

"Aaron Ramsey is the focal point and to build a team round him will be the future of Welsh football," Giggs said.

Ramsey established himself in the Cardiff City first team last season and was soon earning rave reviews.

Premier League clubs had already made enquiries about signing the youngster - with Giggs' Manchester United and the likes of Tottenham believed to have been vying with Arsenal for Ramsey's signature.

The Gunners eventually paid �5m to take him to the Emirates Stadium, but not before Ramsey signed off his Bluebirds career with an impressive cameo in the FA Cup final against Portsmouth.

"I saw it straight off as soon as he come on in the Cup final really, just his balance and his touch and his confidence of 'give me the ball and I'll make something happen'," added Giggs, speaking to BBC Radio Wales' The Back Page programme.

"That is something that you look for in a player, does he want the ball, does he make things happen - and he does all those things.

"At 17, 18 that's when you need to sort of build on your game and you learn every time you go out and train, every time you go out and play you learn something."
