Wales Under-21s will play the home leg of their Uefa Championship play-off against England at Ninian Park.
The game will take place on Friday, 10 October (1945 BST), 24 hours before the seniors' World Cup clash with Lichtenstein.
There was talk of a double-header at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on the Saturday, but this was not possible.
The FA will confirm details of the return leg details on Thursday which is expected to be on Tuesday, 14 October.
England finished top of their group as did Wales, who earned a play-off spot by winning 3-0 in Romania in their final group game.
Germany play France in one of the other play-offs, with the seven winners joining hosts Sweden at the tournament.
