Coach Brian Flynn believes Wales U21 have the talent to recover

Wales Under-21 coach Brian Flynn has not given up hope of reaching next year's Uefa Championship finals despite Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to Romania.

A goal credited to Adrian Ropotan stole the win after Wales had dominated at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

Wales now face the Romanians away on 9 September probably needing a win to reach the play-off for the finals.

"The boys did enough to win the game and we did not take our chances," said a disappointed Flynn.

"We have proved we can score goals prior to this game... it's a golden opportunity that has passed us by tonight.

"I have got some very talented, disappointed players in the dressing room."

Wales still lead Romania by a point at the top of Group 10 but the Romanians have a game in hand, which should garner them three more points against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

That means Wales are likely to travel to Romania two points adrift and knowing only a win will be enough for the play-offs.

"We have got another chance out in Romania which will be very difficult," Flynn added.

"Romania have only conceded one goal in the competition and are a difficult team to play against and they showed us that respect, and you have to take your chances at this level.

"The positive thing to take from the game is that we have shown Romania that we are capable of beating them.

"I would have worries if we were going to Romania with no chance, but we have."
