Toshack says Wales must improve before their World Cup qualifiers

Wales manager John Toshack blasted his team's "schoolboy" error that saw Beka Gotsiridze score an injury-time winner in their 2-1 friendly loss in Swansea.

A mix-up between Ashley Williams and goalkeeper Boaz Myhill saw Wales fall having led early through Jason Koumas.

"The goals we conceded were shocking, particularly the second," Toshack said.

"You've got indecision there, that the Georgia player (Gotsiridze) should be allowed to nip in and score was schoolboy stuff."

Wales had taken the lead through a Georgian error on 16 minutes, when goalkeeper Giorgi Loria fumbled a speculative Koumas shot.

But Georgia equalised midway through the second half when Levan Kenia beat the off-side trap and then came that late error to leave Wales bereft at the Liberty Stadium.

"I was quite pleased at half-time, thought maybe we deserved a goal more, but the second half was a completely different story," Toshack added.

"We looked to be in trouble right from the off and you could almost see it coming.

"We produced very little up front and we were being out-numbered in vital areas.

"The game looked to be petering out until that very poor goal we conceded in injury time.

"I am concerned by a lot of the things I saw. I did not enjoy watching those goals go in.

"The centre of our defence gave us a lot of problems, it is becoming a major problem.

"We are lacking senior players in that area, and it does not look like we are going to get our injured players back for the World Cup games next month."

Wales begin their World Cup qualifying campaign on 6 September at home to Azerbaijan, with a trip to face Russia four days later.

Toshack has serious injury worries over West Ham defensive pair Danny Gabbidon and James Collins, plus Lewin Nyatanga.

There was a double blow for Toshack on Wednesday night with the news from Wrexham that the Under-21s had lost their Uefa Championship qualifying match against Romania.

The Wales juniors will now probably go to Romania for the return in their last Group 10 game on 9 September needing a win to qualify for a finals play-off spot.

The Under-21s had been bolstered by several players - such as Gareth Bale and goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey - who would normally play for the senior side.

And Toshack confirmed that those players would be back with the senior squad in September.

"I'm very disappointed, it's been a bad day in the office for us on two counts," Toshack said.

"For Azerbaijan we would probably be looking for (Chris) Gunter, Bale, Hennessey to come back into the squad.

"Hopefully Joe Ledley will be fit, Lewin Nyatanga I don't think will make it, Craig Bellamy will probably be touch-and-go as will James Collins and Danny Gabbidon has no chance."
