Capello set to demand discipline
England manager Fabio Capello
Capello will stress the FA's "respect the referee" message to England's players
England coach Fabio Capello will lay down the law on discipline after watching Chelsea's bust-up with referee Mike Riley at Spurs on Wednesday.

Ashley Cole, who is in Capello's squad to face France, has apologised for his tackle on Spurs' Alan Hutton and his reaction to receiving a yellow card.

Now Capello is ready to clamp down on intimidation of match officials.

"Fabio will get his message across," the FA's director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking said.

"You want your best players available for every game. You wouldn't want a player missing out on the latter stages of a tournament. Fabio is supportive of this."

John Terry, a candidate to captain England in Paris on Wednesday, led Chelsea's players as they besieged referee Riley following Cole's tackle at White Hart Lane.

Capello has delivered backing to the FA's new "respect the referee" initiative and is understood to have told officials he will hammer home the message to his squad when they meet up for the France game.

An FA spokesman said: "The whole approach is about trying to help protect referees from abuse.

"The issue of respect is central to the long-term health and success of the game.
