West Ham's Carlos Tevez scored as Copa America favourites Argentina survived an early fright against the USA, fighting back from going a goal behind to win 4-1.Eddie Johnson won and then converted a ninth-minute penalty to give the United States, who are playing as Copa guests and brought an experimental team, a shock lead.
Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo - currently on loan at Inter Milan - equalised two minutes later, but Argentina were frustrated by a packed USA defence for nearly an hour.
Crespo finally put Argentina ahead in the 64th minute, running on to to Lionel Messi's pass to place his shot beyond Kasey Keller.
It was Crespo's 34th goal for Argentina, matching the national tally of Diego Maradona, who was in attendance.
Substitute Pablo Aimar made it 3-1, while Tevez came off the bench to add a fourth late in the game as the USA folded in the closing stages.

Argentina star Juan Roman Riquelme:
"We knew it was going to be hard and that they would defend all the time. "But we played with patience. We knew we had 90 minutes and we were always sure we would win the game."
USA coach Bob Bradley:

Roque Santa Cruz fired a hat-trick as Paraguay thumped Colombia 5-0 in their Group C opener at the Copa America.
Colombia missed a golden chance to open the scoring when Alvaro Dominguez saw a 28th-minute penalty saved.
Two minutes later, Bayern Munich's Santa Cruz raced clear to open the scoring - and he added a second 22 seconds after half-time and a third in the 79th minute.
Substitute Salvador Cabanas compounded Colombia's misery by adding two more in the closing minutes.
Paraguay coach Gerardo Martino
"The key moment was the penalty, which Villar saved. The team was ruthless. We didn't have much of the ball but we got to the opponents' penalty area and scored." Colombia coach Jorge Luis Pinto:
"I lament the score. I'm sorry for Colombia and for my country. "We missed a penalty and then they took advantage of the spaces we left and the mistakes we made in defence. We dominated the game."
