McClaren was heavily criticised after the defeat in Croatia |
England coach Steve McClaren says Aaron Lennon, Andrew Johnson and Joe Cole will all play a part in England's friendly with Holland on Wednesday. All three players were injured for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Macedonia and Croatia but McClaren is excited by the thought of working with the trio.
"They have got pace, can beat players and can win you football matches," McClaren told BBC Five Live.
"And they will certainly play a part next Wednesday."
Johnson has made an impressive start to the season for Everton following his summer move from Crystal Palace, scoring six goals in 12 league games.
Lennon, who always impressed when he came off the bench during the World Cup, scored the winning goal in Spurs' 2-1 win over Chelsea on 5 November.
Cole has started just one league game this season after injuring his knee in a pre-season friendly.
McClaren, who has included the uncapped Micah Richards in his squad, added: "From day one I wanted to bring in pace, penetration and athleticism into the squad and those three players epitomise those virtues - as does Micah."
606 DEBATE: Who should start for England against Holland?
The England coach has watched Lennon frequently since the winger returned to the Tottenham side after undergoing knee surgery.
"He is a very flexible player - he is very effective, whether it is on the right, on the left or behind two strikers," said McClaren.
Heavily criticised for using a 3-5-2 formation in the 2-0 defeat by Croatia in October, McClaren refused to talk about what tactical system he would use against Holland.
But the England coach conceded he is still trying to find the right formation to bring out the best in his players.
"It is that blend and balance we are searching for in midfield," he said.
