 | EURO 2008 QUALIFIER Group D: Wales v Cyprus Date: 11 October Kick-off: 2000 BST Venue: Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Coverage: Live on BBC Radio Wales, Radio Cymru & the BBC Sport website |
Record cap-holder Neville Southall says Wales boss John Toshack must keep faith with veteran goalkeeper Paul Jones for the Euro 2008 qualifier with Cyprus. The QPR stopper, 39, has been blamed for at least two of the goals in Wales' 5-1 drubbing by Slovakia on Saturday.
"I think they've got to keep Paul in there because the rest of the team is made up of kids," Southall said.
Southall, who won 92 caps, says there are other things wrong with the team and Jones should not be singled out.
"I don't think they've got a way of playing at the moment that suits the team," added Southall, speaking on BBC Radio Five.
"They did lack a little bit of passion on Saturday, they did lack a bit of organisation.
"But saying that, Slovakia had six attempts at goal and scored five, and Wales had five attempts and scored one.
"I would only blame Paul for one of those Slovakia goals - the poor kick out - but the others were flukes or good finishing that only go in on your bad days."

Southall has a high regard for Ipswich's 22-year-old keeper Lewis Price, seen by many as the heir to the Wales number one jersey.
But the Wales great believes that Jones is still the man in possession and that the QPR man's experience is in short supply in the Wales squad.
Southall, who has managed Dover and Hastings, quit his position as Wales Under-19 coach soon after Toshack was appointed as manager of the senior international side.
The former Everton goalkeeper left claiming he had been treated with "a total lack of respect" by the Football Association of Wales.
But Southall does have some sympathy with the lack of depth in the current Wales squad.
However, despite Toshack having managed the likes of Real Madrid in the past, Southall believes he needs help from current Wales U21 boss Brian Flynn.
"I'm not John Toshack's greatest fan, in all fairness, but it is quite a difficult position because Wales are in transition with a lot of kids," Southall said.
"But I don't think he's been used to working with a lot of kids.
"He did well at Swansea with veterans, he did well in Spain with older players.
"Brian Flynn would be ideal to make a step up and help Tosh at the moment, because he's probably better with kids than Tosh is."
