Southall won 92 caps for Wales |
Neville Southall has quit as Wales Under-19 coach, claiming he has been treated with "a total lack of respect" by the Football Association of Wales. "I think I've had more than enough," Southall, Wales' record cap holder, told the Wales on Sunday newspaper.
"I've worked hard to make a difference, but I can honestly say that not once has anything I've suggested or anything I've really asked for been acted on.
"It gets to a point where you don't want to bang you head against a wall."
Southall's future in Wales' youth set-up was in doubt before his decision to walk away.
New Wales manager John Toshack is expected to make sweeping changes by appointing new coaches to run the Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 sides.
Southall, who says he has not spoken with Toshack about his situation, added: "Obviously John [Toshack] wants to structure things his way and I wish him the very best of luck.
"I would expect to see one man in charge of the whole lot as far as the development of our younger players goes.
"I hope that works out but, as always, it's about money."
FAW management committee chairman Ken Tucker rejected Southall's criticisms, saying: "Nev is making comments on things he knows little about.
"It is sad when people make comments without any knowledge of the finances of the FAW."
