Rangers left-back Steven Smith has been denied the chance of a late Scotland call-up due to a thigh injury. National manager Walter Smith wanted the 21-year old after losing Kevin McNaughton and Graeme Murty.
But Rangers assistant boss Yves Colleu said: "Unfortunately, Stevie has a thigh-muscle injury which has been troubling him.
"I have no doubts, however, that he will go on to represent his country in the future."
The injuries to McNaughton and Murty weaken Smith's options in the wide defensive areas.
Gary Naysmith, Jackie McNamara, Ian Murray and Mark Wilson had been lost to long-term injuries before the Scotland squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against France and Ukraine was announced.
