Smith was pleased with a great win over Bulgaria |
Scotland boss Walter Smith was happy to see his side demolish Bulgaria with the help of two goals from Kris Boyd. "We're obviously very pleased with the result," he told BBC Sport after the 5-1 win in Japan. "With all the travel we thought we'd have some trouble.
"He's (Boyd) been scoring a lot of goals in domestic football and deserved a chance at this level.
"We're a team that has had trouble scoring in the past so hopefully he can help us score some goals."
Boyd's Ibrox team-mate Chris Burke came off the bench to also score twice on his international debut, while James McFadden added the other goal for a side missing a host of extablished players.
"I'm thoroughly delighted," Burke told BBC Sport. "I was just happy to get on and my second touch was a goal.
"I dont score that many goals but now I've got more goals than caps!"
Scotland last scored five goals in a home win against San Marino in 1995, while they last matched that feat on foreign soil when New Zealand were beaten at the 1982 World Cup.
