Scotland manager Berti Vogts remained positive despite his team's 1-0 defeat by Norway at Hampden. "We played so well, we were very unlucky. I am very proud of my team - they gave everything," he said.
"We put a lot of pressure on Norway, who are a very good team. The spirit and organisation was good, only the result was wrong.
"We have to play eight other matches and now we must go to Moldova and get three points," he added.
Vogts also felt the result might have been different if Richard Hughes first-half effort had been allowed. The manager was sent to the stand at half-time for protesting against the decision.
"It was clearly over the line," he said.
Scotland captain Barry Ferguson insisted he and the rest of the squad were right behind Vogts despite the result.
"I feel for the manager because he's not been getting the luck," said Ferguson.
"It's the results that count, but it's not just Berti's fault, it's ours as well.
"If we'd got a break in the goalmouth scramble it might have gone in on a good day. But it's not an excuse and it's going to be hard now."
Asked if the team's chances of qualification were now over he added: "I said beforehand it was a "must-win" game, but at least in the performance there were signs of improvement.
"McFadden getting sent off didn't help us but I'd have done the same thing in his position."
