Robson has international experience with England |
Sir Bobby Robson has emerged as a possible candidate for the Wales manager's job to replace Mark Hughes, who is taking over at Blackburn. "I don't want to nail my name to just one candidate but we could do with having someone like Robson," said FA of Wales councillor Alun Evans.
"He would be an ideal choice with a huge amount of experience.
"He could be asked to step in as a caretaker for these next two games with Gary Speed assisting him."
Evans added: "They worked together at Newcastle and Speed is considered by some people as a possible long-term candidate to manage Wales.
"I know that the first game is against England and that would create an interesting situation if we did ask Sir Bobby, but it is worth people thinking about."
Wales face England at Old Trafford on 9 October, and host Poland at the Millennium Stadium four days later.
Robson, 71, is unemployed following his sacking by Newcastle on 5 September.
Ironically, Robson's dismissal could have led to Hughes leaving Wales for the Blackburn job after Graeme Souness left Ewood Park to take over the Magpies.
Other candidates would be likely to include Wales' all-time top goalscorer Ian Rush, who has recently taken over as Chester boss.
Former Wrexham and Swansea manager Brian Flynn would also be in the frame. And there is also a campaign to install John Toshack as manager but there are many Wales officials still around who recall how he walked out on his country after just one game in control 10 years ago.
