Opinions divided over 'Riogate'
A complex issue
Mike Ingham - BBC Radio Five Live

Even if qualification is secured on Saturday, the damage has already been done.

It's supposed to be a privilege to play for England.

But a lot of that seems to have been lost on Wednesday.

The team had better get a result in Istanbul now, otherwise they will be absolutely slaughtered in the press.

At least you can say the players have shown they're a united squad. But having made that point then they should have got on with it.

If ever there was an intention to construct a siege mentality, then they have been absolutely 100% successful.

My own concern about England is that they will be too over-emotional.

Players are wrong
Alan Mullery - Former England captain

This is the biggest shambles I have ever known with an England team.

Personally, I have memories of Alf Ramsey.

If the players back then said "Alf, we're thinking of not playing", he would have said "Thank you very much, gentlemen" opened the door and said "goodbye".

We don't care
Umit Davala - Turkish international

We heard Ferdinand had problems with this affair.

But it does not interest us because we look to our own game.

We will play the game, and if England do not they will lose three points.
