TRANSFER RUMOURS

Benjani Mwaruwari's proposed transfer to Manchester City from Portsmouth did not go through on Thursday night because he failed to reach Eastlands before the midnight transfer deadline. (Various)

Tottenham did manage to complete the signing of Brazilian left-back Gilberto from Hertha Berlin on deadline night, but failed to prise striker Fred from Lyon. (Express).
