Craig Madden has been voted Bury's all-time cult hero by Football Focus viewers.
Madden won with 63% of the vote, ahead of fellow Bury favourites David Adekola and Greg Farrell.
DAVID ADEKOLA: 27%
The way he breezed in, complete with his international history, played every game with a smile on his face, really and truly looked like he was happy playing football for BFC and disappeared as suddenly as he had arrived only for it to be revealed that his history was a total fabrication was quite the best football story ever! Anon.
Pure Genius! - the game of Football, quite simply, does not create characters and stories like that anymore - and after all that is what a "Cult Hero" is meant to be. Anon.
Cult hero - Adekola was more of an Urban Myth.

Each cult hero should have at least one game which belongs to them...in Adekola's case it was the momentous day out at Scarborough. Add to this the mystery surrounding the true identity of this Nigerian "international", who later turned up playing for Cologne. Plus he always had a grin on his face.

Great story, great player and a great legend.
HSB Carter
Came in from nowhere, left a legend.

Without doubt the cult hero of the 90s. Scarborough away, what a game!

GREG FARRELL: 10%
Greg Farrell. The finest footballer I have seen in a Bury shirt in 46 years. The "George Best" of Division 3 in those days.

For my dad. Whenever we've both had a few drinks, me and my dad always get on to favourite players. Never having seen a video of Greg play I was never sure how to get a handle on his argument. But seeing the look of joy on my dad's face when he met Sir Gregory after the Cardiff game in 1996 was a terrific demonstration of how much he means to a generation.
James
Described at the time by Malcolm Allison as the best winger outside the 1st Division.

CRAIG MADDEN: 63%
Madden.... simply the best. A bit like Van Nistelrooy, always there in the box to fire home the winner. 35 goals one season. He always slammed them in to the watching Manny Road end, usually in the last few minutes.
B. Lightyear
35 goals in one season has to put him up there.
H. Carter
For being the first God to grace the Gigg Lane turf.
