Stoke City's cult heroes

George Berry has been voted Stoke City's all-time cult hero by Football Focus viewers.

Berry won with 41% of the vote, ahead of fellow Stoke favourites Mark Stein and Denis Smith.

George Berry: 41%

Born in Rostrup in Germany, 1957. A no-nonsense central defender, he received five international caps for Wales. George joined Stoke City in 1982 from Wolves where he made over 250 appearances for the club.

Signed for �100,000 from Oxford, and soon exploded into form. He averaged more than a goal every other game in his two and a bit seasons, prompting a �1.5m move to Chelsea. Came back from Chelsea for a brief spell on loan before moving on to Ipswich.

DENIS SMITH: 39%

Smith's career as a player began in 1968 when he started a career with Stoke City that lasted 17 years. During this time, he made 493 appearances and scored 41 goals in a spell that saw Stoke in the top flight for all but the 1977-1979 spell in the old Second Division. Smith won the 1972 League Cup with Stoke and also reached two FA Cup semi-finals with the Potters. He ended his playing career at the Victoria Ground in 1982.
