Chasetown players celebrate Mark Branch's equalising goal |
Minnows Chasetown pulled off a shock by forcing Port Vale - who are 101 places above them in the league pyramid - to a replay in the FA Cup second round. Mark Branch equalised for the visitors after Luke Rodgers had put the League One side ahead in the 18th minute.
Port Vale had much of the possession but failed to create many chances and were booed off by Vale Park fans.
The final whistle sparked Chasetown celebrations, with manager Charlie Blakemore sprinting on to the field.
The winners of the replay will face a third round home tie against Cardiff.
Chasetown, third in the Southern Football League Division One Midlands, fought hard to keep their FA Cup dreams alive.
Blakemore's team could have taken the lead after six minutes but Dean Perrow missed from close range after latching onto a flick-on from strike partner Kyle Perry.
But Luke Rodgers smashed in a 25-yard free kick handed Vale the initiative.
Unintimidated, Chasetown hit back just before half-time when Mark Branch's 40-yard free-kick eluded everyone and sneaked past goalkeeper Joe Anyon.
Port Vale will travel to The Scholars Ground for the replay on the evening of Tuesday 11 December.
