Northampton beat League Two Darlington in their FA Cup first-round replay to set up a home second-round tie against fellow League One side Walsall. Andy Kirk capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper David Stockdale to slot home from 10 yards for the Cobblers' first goal after 36 minutes at Sixfields.
They doubled their lead five minutes later as Bradley Johnson met Poul Hubertz's pass to fire into the corner.
Tommy Wright netted a consolation goal with a stoppage-time header.
