Beadle sorry for FA Cup behaviour
Newport County manager Peter Beadle (pointing) is sent to the stand by the referee as the fourth official (right) walks away

Newport County manager Peter Beadle has apologised for his behaviour in Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Swansea.

Beadle was sent off for arguing with fourth official Alan Sheffield, who was hit in the head seconds later by a coin thrown from the crowd.

Immediately after the game, Beadle rejected suggestion his actions had contributed to the unsavoury incident.

"I let not only myself and my family but my football club down," he said in a statement on the club's website.

"My behaviour was wholly unacceptable and it is my duty to set an example to all of the club.

"I accept totally responsibility for my actions and I'll will accept any punishment that is forthcoming.

"Since my arrival my desire has been purely for the success of Newport County Football Club and I hope that the board will continue to give me their total support and let me continue in my position as manager of the club."

The Football Association of Wales is waiting for the referee's report before deciding on what disciplinary action to take.

Newport County have launched their own investigation into the coin-throwing incident, and club chairman Chris Blight has told BBC Wales Sport they are close to finding the culprit.

Beadle was incensed after Swansea had scored their second goal on 31 minutes from a free-kick he thought should not have been awarded.

He had a lengthy, heated argument with Sheffield on the touchline before the fourth official called over referee Anthony Bates.

The almost inevitable red card followed, but Beadle continued to argue his case and refused to walk away to the stands.

He eventually moved from the touchline as Bates asked for police assistance.

But as Beadle walked across the playing field, Sheffield was struck by a coin and fell to the floor holding his head.

In the post-match interview, Beadle said his actions did not merit such a harsh punishment, accusing the officials over-reacting.

He said: "I questioned the referee's decision on whether it was a foul or not and that's the end of it.

"Unfortunately they are pretty quick to send you away from the dugout. You can't even ask them questions or contest their decisions."

But the 34-year-old Londoner, who joined Newport just over a year ago, has now accepted his behaviour overstepped the mark.

"I'd like to apologise to the board of directors, players and supporters of Newport County Football Club for my actions and behaviour at the game," his statement added.
